Penn Medicine’s Rodebaugh Diabetes Center and Wawa have created a partnership with a purpose. They’ve collaborated to create a program called “Super Nutrition for Super Kids,” which promotes healthy eating and nutrition to hundreds of children in Philadelphia. The program provides children with tools to make healthy choices and teaches them about the importance of good nutrition and staying active through interactive workshops and activities. Penn and Wawa volunteers host events with elements that have an overall focus on boosting energy and fitness through good nutrition, including a healthy hoagie building activity and a “shopping area” for kids to walk through and select healthy snack options. The program kicked off at PAL (Police Athletic League) Centers in Philadelphia this past November where Penn and Wawa leaders encouraged kids to “fly” higher and faster starting with a healthy lifestyle. Participating kids learned about gaining the “super powers” that only healthy eating can provide – while having fun and earning a superhero cape!
